Nowadays many people buy sunglasses for various reasons. For some of them, they want to improve their personal image through wearing sunglasses. Some people do so in order to make them look more like a superstar. And others wear sunglasses to hide the flaw on their faces. Certainly for movie stars, sunglasses can do really a good favor for them to hide their identities.
And now for most people, sunglasses wearing are a good way to protect our eyes from the harmful sun light, not just for making them look more fashionable. In the market today, there are quite many options for you to choose from when buying sunglasses. Sunglasses makers now offer quite lot kinds of sunglasses lenses coated with different colors so that they can catch your attention. However, you may consider that whether all these sunglasses are the same, and brand is an unnecessary thing for you to take into consideration, and maybe most importantly, do all the functions promised by sunglasses sellers really good for us?
“You don’t need to wear sunglasses all the time when you are in the outside”, as the Ophthalmologists say. For the infrared rays are harmless. And your eyes can stand such low-level harm to some extent. The cornea can shields your eyes from most of the UV light which enters into it. Even though UV rays does harm to it, the cornea can repairs itself and your eyes can be all right.
However if your eyes are exposed under extremely bright conditions, for instance, sunlight or snow, you’ll suffer a painful snow blindness. Even in such a situation, your cornea can still recover itself in a day or two. The lens in your eyes acts as a barrier to absorb the UV rays that can not be shielded by the cornea. In this way, your retina which is very sensitive to the light can be protected from damage.
But things become worse when you stay too long under bright light. For those who work outdoors most of the day, construction workers, travelers, fishermen and sportsmen, they may suffer a lot from UV-ray damage. For UV ray, there are two kinds of it: the UVA and the UVB. The former one has long wavelengths, and the latter one has shorter wavelengths. The most damaging one of them is UVB. It can cause deadly blindness. From a survey recently published in a science magazine, it showed that fishermen who are exposed under the UVB for long time take more risks of being blindness. What’s worse, when the ozone layer which can defends against the UV rays now is depleted.
So from all the above, it’s quite obvious that wearing sunglasses is quite necessary. We can only have our eyes for just one time, in order to protect our eyes. Do wear your sunglasses, not just for decoration.
